CASE STUDY 1
OXFAM – EMPOWERING YOUTH FOR WORK
How might we create an ecosystem for youth to actively participate in the economic growth in their region?
65% of Pakistan’s population consists of people below the age of 29. But our youth lacks access to basic job and income generating opportunities. The project aimed to address semi-urban and rural communities of climate-affected districts in Punjab and Sindh.
For the first time in Pakistan, a project designed by OXFAM, embedded the HCD process from project design to implementation. Funded by IKEA foundation, the 5-year project aimed to empower youth for better job and entrepreneurship opportunities, across 4 countries. Over 18 months, white rice facilitated a series of workshops designed to support inspiration, ideation, and implementation for OXFAM’S team and its implementing partners.
We helped the EYW team segment markets, map customer journeys, assess business models, visualize service delivery, perform secondary as well as exploratory research, use creativity and ideation tools to develop solutions, and co-create and test prototypes for products and services with target segments that included young farmers, job seekers, micro-entrepreneurs, and startups.
The project aims to create 10,000 entrepreneurs and new businesses in 5 years.
